I continue to love this series! In The Fall, The Beck is now an attorney in her dad's firm and is handling her first murder trial. Lots of twists and turns in this book! Lots of characters I've grown to love from past books made appearances, which always makes me happy! Can't wait to read Poison!!

Dismas Hardy's daughter, Rebecca, handles her first trial in a case where a young black woman falls to her death. The accused is a high school teacher in his twenties who was providing guidance in the court system to the young woman's twin brother. Is the teacher guilty? Could the fall have been accidental or a suicide? If it's murder, who else could have done it?

The plot is great, the regular characters appear in various roles. A welcome addition to this long-running series.

I like Lescroart but I thought this book was just average

Enjoyed the book, though you know 'he done it' well before the ending.

I enjoyed this novel by an author who rarely lets me down. In The Fall, he effectively uses the technique of Dismas Hardy's daughter, a new lawyer, to show the kinds of issues a criminal defence lawyer can face, including frustrations of not being able to bring certain important information to the jury. The twist at the end wasn't particularly a surprise, but it ended the story in a satisfying way.

I found previous novels by Lescroart about these characters entertaining, but unfortunately he must have written this one in his sleep. Full of clich├ęs, unrealistic characters and an ending that is telegraphed from the very beginning, this is a total waste of time. This is what happens when authors go on auto pilot to produce volume, not quality.
