This series is as good as a Rick Steves travelogue of Italian landscapes and architecture but guided by an Italian speaking detective whose philosophy allows him to catch and release many of the not so bad guys. And the most real time violence is when his multiple course lunches are interrupted. Following the plots are a little difficult for me, but who cares. It's like I'm on vacation.

Good as usual though one has to get to the lack of cell phones in the series and the fact that Montalbano is unarmed. In this regard they are being true to the novels. However the episode called Paper Moon highlights a key mistake that the detective made that will be obvious to viewers whose only police experience is with Law & Order. It was strangely naïve on Salvo's part.

An outstanding effort to recreate Camilleri's characters and setting. A great pleasure for North American readers of the series.
