There is a reasonably good story between the covers of this book. All one needs is tolerance to put up with Zack, a self proclaimed a-hole. But, the story would not work if he wasn't. Recommended for those who can tolerate Zack.

Starts slow but picks up a quarter of the way in and is thoroughly humorous throughout.

Actually impressed. I got to admit it could of used a bit more on your seat moments. Love the jokes here and there. Over all i enjoy this enough to be putting more of his work on hold!

Quite a hilarious story from an author whose more serious work has hooked me from the first book of his that I read. This one is quite different, although very well written as well. It is certainly good for a few chuckles and a lot of belly laughs!

The narrator spends an increasing amount of time trying to explain that he is not an a**hole. But he is. He is also a control freak and a manipulative jerk. His wife hates him, his children hate him, and so do I. His is also stupid--despite the fact that he tells us repeatedly how smart he is. At least he admits that his books are worthless trash and he is unbelievably lazy.

To be fair--I only made it to page 172 before I remembered that I am too old and too busy to waste my time on Bad Moves, like reading this book. I couldn't even be bother to skip to the end--where I would hope to find that he has been put in prison for double homicide while his family returns to their old home and finds peace and happiness in his blessed absence.

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "Another great read by Linwood. You can really see his style developing. Great twist. Love the humor too."

Linwood Barclay's first book remains my favourite of his novels. He has received a lot of acclaim for his new sleek thrillers with their generic settings, but I love this first one for being so proudly and unabashedly Canadian. "Oakwood" seems a lot like Oakville, Ontario to me! The best thing is that this book is not only a really good mystery, but it is very funny. It's hard to find a genuinely good mystery that's also hilarious, but this one is. His newer books are very exciting, but have become very serious and grim. This book is hugely entertaining and fun and I highly recommend it.
