This is the rare YA Regency-set historical that does not throw magic into the mix (I don't know why the Regency setting in teen books seems to necessitate the element of magic, but it is so. common) -- and it's fun. I didn't love it like I wanted to, but it's light and breezy and pretty amusing (I mean, it opens with its heroine dangling from the edge of a cliff...). It's a good readalike for Meg Cabot's two YA historicals, or Patrice Kindl's Keeping the Castle. Anstey isn't as talented as either Cabot or Kindl, but this is a good recommendation for readers looking for a historical setting, humor, romance, and some light espionage.

This delightful Regency YA novel (how often do you see that?!) is witty, fun and surprising. What else would you expect from a book that starts out with a woman hanging from the side of the cliff, begging the gentlemen willing to help her to go find her a farmer or something. Spying and courting abound, with a satisfying ending for all!

This book was a great read! It pulled me in right from the beginning.
