My son and I love this book. He often wants to listen to it when we are going for even a short stint in the car. Super fun, silly and touching all at once.

Great fun made even better by the author's own reading on the audiobook. The short story - it's only one CD - plus the frenetic yarn make it a great one to listen to, even on short errands.

This is funny, in a ridiculous sort of way. Time traveling dinosaurs, pirates, aliens, a sentient volcano, wumpires and milk are play a role in this book.

Way over the top hilarious and oddly touching. Audiobook well read by the author.

A fun, quick read. Funny in a silly sort of way. Highly recommend the audiobook which is read by the author, Neil Gaiman. His British accent adds to the fun and quirkiness of it all.

An inventive story for children involving dinosaurs, aliens, pirates--all the stuff that kids love--plus time-shifting milk. Could use a bit of editing to shorten the story.

The book's unnamed Dad tells the most inventive story ever rather than admit he dallied while running out to get milk for his children's breakfast cereal. It's the type of random, convoluted, logic-defying yarn only a child is imaginative enough to invent, and it's excellently, amusingly right up its readers' alleys. Nicely illustrated and perfectly fun.

A quick sample:

"The globby aliens went a very pale green. The pirates, shiny-black-hair-men, and the piranhas looked at them, puzzled, seeking some kind of explanation, as did the wumpires.

" 'If two things that are the same thing touch,' proclaimed the volcano god, 'then the whole Universe shall end. Thus sayeth the great and unutterable Splod.'

" 'How does a volcano know so much about transtemporal metascience?' asked one of the pale green aliens.

" 'Being a geological formation gives you a lot of time to think,' said Splod. 'Also, I subscribe to a number of learned journals.' "

And that doesn't even mention the time travel, hot-air-balloon-flying stegosaurus professor, or intergalactic dinosaur police.

This story focuses on the very silly and imaginative tale (involving alient abduction and being captured by pirates) that the Dad recounts to explain to his kids why it took so long to get home with the milk when their Mom was away. It has funny dry British humor. My only complaint was that I felt it went on too long, but my 6 year old boy liked it!

Great story--something good to get your kids started on audio books. You'll never look at a coconut or hot air balloon in quite the same way ever again. And all of this because Mom was out of town and Dad forgot to get the milk! 7 out of 10

This excellent, light and quick story emphasizes the mastery Gaiman possesses as a writer. I found myself smiling all the way through. 10 of 10 twinkle stars
