This is a very instructive little book and someday I or my children may use it as a jumping-off point to learn about our German relatives. Half of them are "German" --- the other half are from the UK.
I was looking at this book not from the genealogical where-did-we-come-from point of view but rather from the larger German history point which is p;resented in condensed but highly usable form'
Lots of references; how to deal with the pitfalls of the old German font which is virtually entirely out of use. It helps, of course to have at least a minimal grasp of the German language though the people you are likely to be dealing with, at least those born post 1960 will be more than competent in English.
Lots of good references.

Comprehensive & detailed. Great for advanced genealogists as well as beginners. Includes very basic genealogical and tombstone terms in German. Overview of history of German-speaking lands, historic geography including places outside current boundaries of Germany, how to read their handwriting, naming conventions, changes in names over time, patterns of immigration, recommended books and websites, examples of each type of record and myriad ideas on where and how to look! 5 STARS! I think the computer may have misread my review as 4 stars a moment ago....

A very enjoyable book by a real expert. I discovered this author from a YouTube video about German genealogy.
