I found this book extremely tedious and certainly not on par with McCrumb's previous Appalachian Ballad books. I'd recommend reading one of her earlier books instead of this one.
McCrumb is a master storyteller, and captures the mood of the time (early Depression) and place (small town Tennessee) perfectly. A real gem!
Another great story from this author.
