Lauren Layne starts her new Wedding Belles series off right with To Have and Hold. I always enjoy Ms. Layne’s writing and this latest novel is no exception. It was fun with interesting characters and a great story.

Wedding planner extraordinaire Brooke Baldwin recently moved from Los Angeles to New York after being stood up at the alter when her fiancee was arrested for fraud by the FBI. (Think Bernie Madoff.) This understandably rocked her world, and she decides to make a new start with a big move and a job. Brooke closed her own planning business and joined the most prestigious west coast wedding planning group, Wedding Belles.

Her first big wedding in New York is for a hotel heiress whose big brother, Seth Tyler, questions the integrity of her fiancee and his intentions. Determined to discover the truth, he decides the best route is to involve himself in the planning process and thus meets Brooke. Sparks immediately fly as the controlling, serious Seth clashes with the fun, optimistic Brooke. Soon the two give in to the temptation and begin a non-relationship, meaning they start a relationship but pretend like it is only a casual fling.

Brooke is having to face her past since she never really dealt with the aftermath caused by her fiancee. Seth has his own relationship baggage and, of course, is also knee deep trying to protect his sister. It is not a great time for either to fall in love, but as you probably guess, there is no stopping cupid and these two end up together and happy.

Again, I really liked this To Have and to Hold. The characters were interesting and relatable. The chemistry between Brooke and Seth was believable and hot. The second book in the series was set up, but it never felt like a forced or awkward plot addition. Lauren Layne does it again! I am looking forward to reading For Better or Worse at the end of next month. (Thank you Ms. Layne for not waiting months to publish the next books in the series. It is so much easier to enjoy the next story when you remember the previous!)
