Otter has been to space, now it is time for a more grounded day of fun. In Otter Goes to School, the affable and adorable Otter decides to play school with her stuffed friends. Giraffe and Pig easily discover what they are good at, but poor Teddy doesn't seem to have any talents, and as a teacher, this upsets Otter. With some wise advise from Otter Keeper, Otter learns what it takes to be a good teacher, and to help her students find their special quality.
With its sedate pace, clear layout, and concise use of words, young readers will have no trouble following the story, and even reading along. As an added benefit, this encourages us to take time to absorb and enjoy the artist's cute art with its soft-looking lines and warmth-inducing colours. The "you are unique" message is very common in picture books, but Garton manages to put his own unique mark on it.
“Otter Keeper gave me a cuddle. He said that everyone is good at something, and that you just need to find out what that something is. I think Otter Keeper is right.”
A sweet story about a deeply dedicated teacher Otter helping her students excel scholastically.
