This is an excellent book for young people about a residential boarding school and is set in the 1950s. Although it is a work of fiction, it is based on real-life events. The author claims that every word is true.
The story is told through the eyes of 4 young people at the school. The friends support each other through the hardship and abuse that they encounter.
It is stark and honest, yet at the same time it is also heartwarming.
