Super action packed with twists and turns and lovely character building. The overarching story never gets lost in the side plots, but it did fall a little stale in a few places. I've never read a book quite like this one. Well worth the read.

What a read! By far the best title a have read all year. Whether its a strong cast of characters, twists that will will leave you stunned, and a ending so impressive that I would call it the best ending that I've read! This is a must read for anyone. Get this book now!

This is such a refreshing YA novel. I loved every moment of it. Not only is it fast paced but that characters are super compelling and feel genuine. It shares similarities to Red Rising by Pierce Brown but that's a great thing. Just can't wait for the second book.

If you are looking for a gritty teen sci-fi novel, look no further than The Diabolic. Follow Nemesis, a girl bio-engineered to be a bodyguard to a princess, as she infiltrates the Emperor's space station by posing as her charge and pretending to be human. She'll have to navigate political intrigue and religious fanaticism ash she tries to keep her secret and determine the loyalties of the people around her.

This book stayed with me long after I closed it. It was an thoroughly engaging read.

This was such a great sci-fi book! I really liked the characters, the intricacies of the characters and how things could be adjusted like appearances with just an injection. Nemesis is a great character who was made for fighting yet she hasn't lost all her humanity and as the story goes along she gets more of it back. There is a lot of diabolical scheming. Not too much with surprises but a few times I questioned what I was reading. Did Tyrus really love Nemesis or was he only interested in being the Emperor? It's a really good book and is a fast read.

I had to buy this book after I saw S.J. Kincaid speak and she talked it up at Tattered Cover--and I was not disappointed. I love retellings, and I really appreciate that while Kincaid is using a retelling of I, Claudius, she has created an epically brilliant and original plot line that isn't a direct retelling of this play.

One 'bad' book. A little blood, and a little promise goes a long way in Diabolic's conspiratorial world.

Edit: Ok. Maybe 'a lot more' blood.

Amazing! Adventure, romance, murder, politics - all in space!

This was quite a good book. I really enjoyed the ideas incorporated along with the dystopian sci-fi setting, though I felt that it fell flat every now and then. In particular, there are times when the characters discuss doing something or an idea is presented to the audience and then it isn't followed through, making me wonder why it was even brought up at all in the first place. I got frustrated by this several times, so to me this was the main flaw. Another thing that I was disappointed in was the fact that there weren't many characters that were truly fleshed out. I had hoped that over the course of the book depth would be added to more of the people surrounding Nemesis, only to be denied. It's not like this hurt the story in a truly significant way, but I believe that it could have been a much more powerful tale if side characters were treated like they were more important since they help drive the narrative forward. I think the story was strongest when it was centered around the relationship between Nemesis and Tyrus (who was my favorite character). I won't give any spoilers about the ending, though I will say that I was disappointed by a certain aspect of it which I felt weakened the finale overall. Still, I really did like this book and will most likely read it again.

Nemesis is one of the best characters I've read this year! I loved this book SO much! Reminiscent of Star Wars and inspired by I, Claudius, the world is fascinating and the characters really drive the story. Read this book!
