"The crime scene is unlike any that Detective Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles have ever before encountered. The woman lies in apparently peaceful repose on her bed, and Maura finds no apparent cause of death, but there is no doubt the woman is indeed dead. The victim's eyes have been removed and placed in the palm of her hand, a gesture that echoes the terrifying films she produces. Is a crazed movie fan reenacting scenes from those disturbing films? When another victim is found, again with no apparent cause of death, again with a grotesquely staged crime scene, Jane and Maura realize the killer has widened his circle of targets. He's chosen one particular woman for his next victim, and she knows he's coming for her next. She's the only one who can help Jane and Maura catch the killer. But she knows a secret. And it's a secret she'll never tell"--

Add a CommentNot bad for tv series, although I haven't seen any, but I'm judging because of the content. This is the first book of this author that I read. Ends with a hint of a possible sequel, involving one of the suspects from this time.
I finished this in a couple of days. A real page turner!!
Tess Gerritsen continues to hit her mark with the Rizzoli & Isles series with this effort. Fast paced, kind of thinking you know who is the antagonist but more than happy to follow the ride to see how it all resolves. The secondary stories - the personal ones - are thought provoking as well. Family drama is never boring, and certainly not with these two characters.

A scary, scary read with adept twists and turns. Tess Gerritsen's medical background gives her an edge writing this kind of psychological thriller. It's one of those hidden in plain sight stories where the obvious has been very cleverly obscured.
A well done beginning and an even better ending. This is a page turning, suspenseful novel with a well thought out fast paced complex plot. The Rizolli and Isles relationship continues as does Maura's relationship with her evil mother. And is Jane's mother very rocky relationship with her husband been finally resolved and is Muara's love affair with Daniel now on again? A great surprise and thrilling ending with the door open to the next novel.
Tess Gerritsen is a fabulous writer. She writes really great stories with a very smart story line that leaves you really guessing. As one character says in the book (paraphrasing) "it's never the obvious choice." And, that's the way the book is. Every time the characters have something figured out, they are wrong - well, you know that because there is too much of the book left. But then you find out your guesses about what's happening are just as wrong. Great characters and character development. And while the end is satisfying, it opens the barn doors wide as can be for a lingering new criminal to come out of this book and onto the pages of the next or some future book featuring Rizzoli and Isles. Great read. Enjoy.
So very happy Rizzoli and Isles is back. Gerritsen is an amazing writer. A page-turner for sure.
