Set in Tennessee, this book held two different stories. One about Hayden and Carrie and one about the residents of the house in 1867. Writing seems contrived. I skipped the modern romance (too much emotional angst and syrupy google eyes wanna be kissed, etc.. and endless details about clothes and how people looked)- some parts redundant.
I read through all the old time chapters, which was a good story. Too bad the author didn't just make a story about that alone. Like one option would've been to introduce an older gentleman maybe from the train or possibly an uncle who'd eventually be suitable to court the mother of the son who the girl was to marry. I wonder how that would've been... then the book could have been the same length without all the sappy modern stuff.
with a predictable ending.
