Somewhat interesting, however Mr. Ross has a bad habit of believing unreliable sources. For example, he trusts the work of another book, written a decade after the events described, claiming there was a nazi encampment in Rustic Canyon. Unfortunately those rumors continue to be spread in hiking guides and the property has been defaced by graffiti and trash left by people looking for a thrill and finding only concrete foundations. Unfortunately they are now also spray-painting rocks, trees and the road leading to the property. This is not a scholarly work and lacks good reference material. A far better book, written at the same time, is Hollywood's Spies by Laura B. Rosenzweig which has ample footnotes and better source material.

This is a wonderful historical book, about a previously poorly documented history of NAZIS and German nationalists in Southern California before WWII. I rank it up there with David Neiwert's books about NW right wing movements, "In God's Country; The Patriot Movement and the Pacific Northwest" and his latest, "Alt-America: The Rise of the Radical Right in the Age of Trump".
