"Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson is a high school senior from the "wrong side of the tracks." She longs for adventure, sophistication, and opportunity, but finds none of that in her Sacramento Catholic high school. LADY BIRD follows the title character's senior year in high school, including her first romance, her participation in the school play, and most importantly, her applying for college"--IMDb.

Lady Bird's boyfriend invites her to his grandmother's house for Thanksgiving. She is given a tour of the house, and when she sees a framed photo of President Ronald Reagan hanging on the wall in the parlor, she laughs, smirks and disrespects the President. Wow, what a surprise! This is what Hollywood liberals do, and I'm glad that comedian Ricky Gervais—at the 2020 golden globes—exposed and ridiculed them for the disgusting people that they are. And I'm sure that Sandra Bullock and Matt Damon think Harvey Weinstein (the lib's poster-boy) is really just a nice guy, if only you overlook his faults.

VERY GOOD 2018 coming of age (high school) movie set in 2002. I was a but surprised that I would get engaged in it due to my, um, older age, but I did. I particularly enjoyed new for me Laurie Metcalf's performance as the mom and will be checking out more of her performances. The other performers were fine, too - as was the rest of the film production.

Despite the poor ratings, I gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised. It's a good depiction of the difficult pull and push that often develops in a mother/daughter relationship. It's perhaps best appreciated by women who have lived through it and come to understand it when looking in the rear view mirror. The acting was excellent .

On paper, it seems to have potential: a young girl's coming of age, search for love and feelings from family, friends and lovers.
What we get is aimless, pointless, disjointed storytelling with dramatically null characters.
The only one remotely interesting is the serene, self-deprecating father.

As uneventful a movie as you'll ever find. No, I don't need to see buildings blowing up, guns going off and pools of blood on the sidewalk, but I do need to see a story with a beginning, middle and end, which Gerwig is unwilling to give me. Maybe she got the idea from Kevin Smith, but the episodic story with no dramatic tension bores me. Chalamet is good as a snarky kid who's not as smart as he thinks he is. Laurie Metcalf as the mother does stellar work; really she's the only actor worth praising.

This movie is not for everyone. If you remember being a senior in high school, anxious to find your place in the world and to get away from home, and struggled with relationships (esp. with a parent), this will bring back a lot of memories. The acting of the mother and daughter was outstanding. The daughter is played by an Irish actress who pulled off an American accent very well. Like those high school years, there are heart breaks and highlights. Pretty well done!

I just thought this movie was ok. Nice shots of Sacramento, and Laurie Metcalf was great as the mom. Some funny parts to it, but this isn't Juno. I just don't understand the hype and praise this movie received. I guess I have to watch it again.

Saw it the second time. It's worthy of seeing. Regardless of Academy Awards.

Quite a good indy flick featuring some fine performances.

One of the better movies I've seen over the last few years but if your idea of a good movie is the typical Hollywood blockbuster, skip this movie, it isn't.

Many inquiring and humorous quotes have been posted in IMDb. Many thanks to the contributors. The first quote listed in the site hits the spot on the relationship between many teens and their parents (added three lines* for full context):
Lady Bird: I wish that you liked me.*
Marion: Of course I love you.*
Lady Bird: But do you like me?*
(Conversation continued as the first quote in IMDb page)
Marion: I want you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be.
Lady Bird: What if this is the best version?
