Thankfully, a bit off the beaten path. My wife and I really enjoyed this movie. It was well paced, the cinematography was well done, the acting very good and the music was a real treat. Very creative directing. Way above average and well worth watching. Was surprised that none of it was shot in the US (it's set in Oregon/California) but actually in Roumania, Spain and France.

The time for this genre is over. We watched some to see where it was going, but it was getting bleaker and darker, so we rejected.

I liked it.
Good acting.
Two different brothers, in an
old fashioned Western.

Disappointed in this one. I picked it because of the lead actors, but I expected more.

Billed as a comedy, but not funny. Great cast but plodding pace. Final 15 minutes or so where good but the rest just so-so. We feel it was overrated and were quite disappointed.

Re: Boydn's quote from critic Owen Gleiberman: Owen Gleiberman can suck it. Nobody should ever quote someone who wrote for "Entertainment Weekly." It wasn't called Cinema Weekly or Art Weekly, you know? I like westerns and I especially like westerns that try to do something different. Based on the book by Patrick deWitt, this was directed by Frenchman Jacques Audiard ("A Prophet") and has a great cast: John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed, and, very briefly, Carole Kane, Rutger Hauer, and Allison Tolman. While it has all the elements of a classic western, it has a darkly sardonic tone and is absent of the mythic bunk of the old movies. It's beautifully shot and deliberately paced, with a non-ending ending, but I really liked it. It would be a good double feature with the Coens' "Balld of Buster Scruggs."

Positive critical response, but lost money. I was looking forward to it because I enjoyed the book, and the the straight ahead 'A Prophet' by the director. You get Desplat's score. One critic (Owen Gleibermen of Variety) wrote, "The Sisters Brothers is too light to be a true drama and too heavy to be a comedy." You might be able to enjoy it for what it is. I didn't like it; neither felt edified. DeWitt on first seeing it could only say, 'It was a lot to take in'.

Not your typical western movie. Excellent acting.
