Overgard is a resourceful yet increasingly desperate man stranded in a remote, snow-covered wilderness. After a plane crash in an icy wasteland, Overgard must live by his wits as he waits for help to arrive. But when a long-awaited rescue effort fails, he faces a life-or-death decision: remain in the relative safety of his camp and hope to be found or embark on an arduous trek that may be the only hope for both him and a critically injured stranger.

Good grief! Just go with the film, don't try to figure out why he's there...pretty obvious with a plane wreck and SOS signaling. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and did some anxiety breathing about the animal threats. The man was fit, he was determined and the woman gave him a reason to survive. Great cinematography. Brutal location. I'd have laid down and slept myself to death. Mads was believable. It reminded me a bit of Liam Neeson in Greys, although that was a stretch to believe. Yes, it's slow so if you want car chases, lots of violence of the other culture give this a miss.

realistic, captivating, great acting, awesome cinematography--not fast-paced or dramatic, because it was based on true events....

This movie is, without a doubt, the worst movie I have ever seen. There are only three characters, two of whom don't say anything, and the third mumbles a few times throughout the movie. I've worked on the Arctic circle, so I know what it's like, and there is no way he could have survived doing what he was doing. Everything the main character did, both physically and medically, is absolute nonsense. A complete waste of time!

Very interesting survival in the north movie.

If you are tired of survival movies where the characters spend most of their time fighting, bickering, arguing, complaining and constantly questioning the leader's decisions and ability to lead. Then you will find this movie refreshingly different.

limited characters in the movie. Watch it if you like "snow" related movies.

I thought this was so well acted and the cinematography terrific. I also thought it was intelligent and I didn't think about why he ended up there. I believe he was trying his hardest to get rescued. The helicopter happened to pick up his radio signal but was unable to navigate the extreme weather conditions. I have no idea why they were flying over the barren land but people do and that's good enough for me. The pilot (Overgard) was such a strong person and so kind and totally chivalrous which wasn't over the top. He also had good skills which kept getting better and I was thrilled he found a Bic lighter. I found it harrowing and not at all boring. I thought it was believable and oh, that ending. Put on a sweater when you watch this!

Extremely slow movie. It's far fetched, No, I mean extremely far fetched. The chances of any man pulling the load he was pulling over the distance travelled (going by his map) and in Canada's far north and surviving I would give it a point 00001 chance. A question here. Is it not logical that with his plane down search teams would be looking for him. Now add the helicopter also goes down. Search and rescue would not be looking for that also. So we take off for a nice long walkabout.

“Mads Mikkelsen as a dude stranded in the Arctic. Why is he there? And why does no one seem to be looking for him? The story never explains, preferring to hold us in the suspense of a survival tale without parameters, without a base. Our guy is not unduly uncomfortable waiting to be picked up, but circumstances change and he must dare to attempt an overland trek out of his comfort zone, and that's when the story really begins. Still, not an exceptional piece. Serviceable, eh, but there are better out there. Mikkelsen is one committed performer though.” I copied this from another critic that said it better than I could.
