Nick Fury: We have no idea what other intergalactic threats are out there. And our one woman security force had a prior commitment on the other side of the universe. S.H.I.E.L.D. alone can't protect us. We need to find more.
Agent Coulson: More weapons?
Nick Fury: More heroes.
Agent Coulson: You think you can find others like her?
Nick Fury: We found her and we weren't even looking.

Before Captain Marvel came out, it received some unpleasant attention: "this film is woke, and I don't like Brie Larson. One star!" One billion dollars and a sequel in production later, the boycott didn't go so well, and you know what? It's fine. It's a superhero movie. Some of the dialogue is anvilacious, but it has an interesting take on the usual origin story. If you like this kind of film usually, and have an open mind on who a superhero could be, you will have a fine time.
Interesting change to Captain Marvel. She seems Omnipotent. What are her struggles in life?
I really enjoyed the transformation scene.
I saw the character appear in the Avengers movie before catching this one. I wish this movie had had more of the resolute hero in it and less of the bumbling newb, for the main character. Given that drawback for me, this was well-done for a comic book movie. Engaging plot that made me kinda care and certainly want to see how the movie wrapped things up with the factions. Again, was looking for more of the resolute hero and less of the foppish adolescent.
This movie is in a battle for the worst MCU movie (with Thor: Dark World). This movie is an origin story with flash backs so it has a lot of talking. There are very enjoyable comedic situations especially with the main changeling as well as the ongoing reveal scares/tricks about Nick Fury's damaged eye and eye patch origin.
Instead of taking a standard and more rewarding approach to a compelling story, the strongest entity in the MCU is reduced to an PTSD amnesiac and the movie tries to promote "Girl-Power" instead of believability and relatability.
Once Captain Marvel is at full power, the movie suffers the same as all Superman movies, like him, she is unstoppable and overpowered, so the only threat is kidnapping the powerless and her having to save them. It's a boring plot.
great Plot. Intense action scenes. Brie is scrumptiously delicious!!!!
This was a good, solid, entertaining movie overall. I didn't really know much about Captain Marvel going in, so it was all new to me. I thought Carol Danvers was a really interesting character and Brie Larson was great in her role. I really enjoyed all of the mystery aspects of this movie, as Carol unravels the mystery of her past. There were some nice twists and turns along the way. There was also a lot of humour in this film. This was a really good standalone film in the Marvel universe. I thought it was very enjoyable and engaging.
Nice visual effects. Great plot with many twists and turns. The integration between fantasy and reality isn’t awkward. Great characters both protagonist and antagonist. The kitty is a fun addition.
If you like strong female characters, lots of action, with a best-friend-who-reminds-you-who-you-really-are twist, and a becoming-your-true-self revelation, I think you'll really enjoy this film.
Vers (pronounced Veerz) doesn't remember her life before she ended up on a planet that, as far as she knows, isn't her planet of origin.
Her job sees her working as part of an elite military squad and, when a mission goes wrong, she's kidnapped. She escapes, but her bad day doesn't end there.
She meets up with a young Nick Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D., and tries to unravel the mystery of who she really is, and what her true potential might be.
**Spoiler alert**
I especially love the revelation that her "weakness" of getting knocked down in many ways, so many times in her life is actually her strength because getting knocked down gives her the strength/courage/determination to Always. Get. Back. Up. To never give up.
