Within the walls of a tasteful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, young Zane Bigelow feels like a prisoner of war. Strangers -- and even Zane's own aunt across the lake -- see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children's ballet recitals and baseball games. Zane and his sister know the truth: There is something terribly wrong. As his father's violent, controlling rages -- and his mother's complicity -- become more and more oppressive, Zane counts the years, months, days until he can escape. He looks out for little Britt, warning her Be smart. Be careful. In fear for his very life, he plays along with the insidious lie that everything is fine, while scribbling his real thoughts in a secret journal he must carefully hide away. When one brutal, shattering night finally reveals cracks in the facade, Zane begins to understand that some people are willing to face the truth, even when it hurts. As he grows into manhood and builds a new kind of family, he will find that while the darkness of his past may always shadow him, it will also show him what is necessary for good to triumph -- and give him strength to draw on when he once again must stand up and defend himself and the ones he loves...

Fun story. The details and development were nicely done. I love how well I got to know the setting and all of the characters (main and secondary.) The characterizations of the hero, heroine, family, and friends were fantastic. It's obvious when it comes to the main players, Roberts doesn't write the same character twice. The villains felt a little over the top in this one, but entertaining, nonetheless. As with the first book I read from the author, the suspense was there, but it was more intrigue than anything else and once revealed, the climactic moments wrapped up quickly. All in all, I really enjoyed Under Currents and will likely continue reading her romantic suspense standalones for the well-developed characters and romances.

This was a hit and miss for me. I finished it and while I enjoyed it if I had had any other books waiting for me I would have been drawn awhile easily. The beginning of the book draws you in. I enjoyed reading about Emily and Zane and his sister in the earlier years but I didn't feel any real connection between Zane and Darcy. One minute she's the Gardner and the next she's the leading lady with no build-up, no spark, no nada between them, just nothing. The takedown of Graham by Darcy was over so quickly. Threat from his past taken care of and them boom here comes the threat from her past. To neat, coincidental and no imagination. in the end, I finished the book and while it wasn't great it also wasn't horrible.

I loved this book. It is about family abuse and survival. I find Nora Roberts’ books easy to get into and she keeps you entertained through to the end.

Loved it! Gets your attention from the start!

Nora Roberts book was about landscaping! Overcoming abuse with a little revenge late in the book sums this story up. I got very tired of details on the type of flowers and trees she was planting. The reviews on this book were over rated.

A fairly easy, fairly interesting read though also fairly predictable. I have to say too that I found the characters rather pollyannaish, and, yes, that includes the men. On the other hand, the two protagonists tipped the other end of the scale as rather over-the-top brutish. There was a lot of eye rolling throughout - mine!

Informative about family abuse.
I thought too much repetitive detail through out and wanted to say we get it.
With the detailed description of the gardening work, it felt like I had read this before
either in one of her books or another one.
Interesting enough that I finished it.

My first Nora Roberts novel. A real saga about the lives affected by domestic violence. A beautiful setting with enough suspense and crime to keep be interested.

A nice easy thriller. It feels slightly less cookie cutter than the typical Nora Roberts thriller - there's a fair bit of character development, however I found Darby's storyline was a little underdeveloped.

Love all her books but this one jumped around with multiple people, times, villains, etc. making it my least favorite to date. Sorry to make any negative comments, but this is not up to her usual high standards.
