Following a year in the life of a twenty-something American woman who falls hard for her London flat mate, this clever, fun, and unforgettable romantic comedy is the perfect feel-good holiday read.

Two people. One house. A year that changes everything.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jess is following her dream and moving to London. It's December, and she's taking a room in a crumbling, but grand, Notting Hill house-share with four virtual strangers. On her first night, Jess meets Alex, the guy sharing her floor, at a Christmas dinner hosted by her landlord. They don't kiss, but as far as Jess is concerned the connection is clear. She starts planning how they will knock down the wall between them to spend more time together.

But when Jess returns from a two-week Christmas holiday, she finds Chris has started dating someone else—beautiful Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into (hell, sharing a bathroom with) the man of her dreams...and the woman of his.

I like a fun, mindless read sometimes. Even then, I prefer that writing be artful in some way--clever, imaginative, action-packed, or picturesque; there should be SOMETHING special or memorable about it. I'm sad to report that this book lacks pizzazz of any kind. I could have written this book. It's as though every single thought or sentence by the characters could have come from the most average of real live people. Maybe that sounds relatable. No. It is bland.

“I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!” –Elf
This is how this book made me feel throughout the entire read. It’s a classic will they
or won’t they love story set in London, England, I mean what more could you ask for.
Jess meets Alex when she lives out her dream of moving to London to work for a
publishing company. Alex of course is her housemate that lives in the room next
door! The book follows each of their lives individually and together for a year, and oh
man, this year changes everything. If you are looking for a quick, sweet, and semi
seasonal read, definitely check this one out!

Classic love story, with a London twist. The first couple chapters I could not get into the book, skipped most of it. Throughout the novel I skimped through the book. There were parts that I felt irrelevant and made it longer than it should. I liked the part how they all share one big house but other wise the reader could easily tell who likes who... "Unforgettable romantic comedy" seems pretty far fetched, barely laughed, would not reread the book. And was it romantic, but I didn't feel any attachment towards the characters. It got pretty awkward in some parts and other times it was just boring. Rating: 2/5

A New & Noteworthy pick. Two people. One house. A year that changes everything. This romantic comedy is the perfect feel-good holiday read.

This slow-burn love story is loosely connected to the holiday season, but covers two years in the lives of Jess & Alex as they become friends while their romantic potential keeps swinging and missing. This is not overly steamy, but the attitude toward sex is a bit too casual for my tastes. Alex is training to be a nurse (so is my son), so I did love that aspect of his character. An entertaining read, but not nearly as compelling as "One Day In December" by Josie Silver.
