This documentary is extremely well made, especially as a music doc. The old footage is PRICELESS. It is a visual feast and, of course, his music is phenomenal. Just the right amount of insight to his personal life; it’s really about his legacy as a songwriter and storyteller, rightfully so. I highly recommend this documentary to everyone, whether they know Gord’s music or not!

I am and have been a Lightfoot fan since the 60s'. This is a must see biography. It does leave some gaps that may leave fans wondering.
The bio shows the man, at times, made a mess of his personal life with different affairs and his struggle with alcohol.
One thing the bio does shows is the brilliance of Lightfoot and his talent. But both of those are nothing without hard work and that is another thing we see. Like all great entertainers and athletes, Lightfoot makes it all look so effortless when he is on the stage.
I count myself fortunate to attend a Lightfoot concert at Massey Hall in the 1960s'.

Was a little nervous when I slid the DVD into the player...geared down my expectations, prepared to be disappointed. Would this documentary actually do the man justice?

No worries! It's hard to overstate the excellence of this full length documentary. Like a good Lightfoot song draws you in from the first chords of the intro, this movie grabs the viewer within two minutes and keeps the viewer riveted to the man and his over 50 years of music until the final credits.

It needn't have been that good. Gordon Lightfoot--articulate and brutally honest--and the songs themselves (there must be two dozen featured here) would make any kind of retrospect interesting. However, the artistry of the film-makers is a good match for the brilliance of the songs most of us know so well.

Toronto director/producers Martha Kehoe and Joan Tosoni are doubly-blessed (and so are we). Not only do they possess a captivating subject and his wonderful music, the raw materials they unearthed are jaw-dropping. This is no talking heads-and-old photos pastiche. The film that's incorporated--much of it still near-pristine decades after it was shot--is truly remarkable.

Wonderful.

Singer/songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot (born 1938) is definitely one of my very favorite Canadian musicians of his generation, bar none.

There are so many of Lightfoot's songs that I enjoy listening to on a regular basis. I have the greatest respect for this man and his music.

Through stills, archival footage, and interviews (including those with Lightfoot) - This informative bio-documentary takes a close-up look at the life and career of a true Canadian icon, Gordon Lightfoot.

Saw Gordon Lightfoot at Memorial Hall in KCK sometime in the '70s. Great concert but the pot smoke was so thick you barely see the stage. Ah, the good old days! This documentary sheds some light on who GL was and how he came to be known as the premier Canadian singer/songwriter revered by many in the music business as a consummate musician. Some focus on his personal issues that inspired a lot of songs but mostly about his music and wonderful music it is.

Awesome that Gord's still with us. What with one thing and another. The sheer talent burns through.

Anyone not familiar with this Canadian folk music icon... congratulations on being so young! If Bob Dylan stood in anyone’s shadow it would be Gord’s. This is an excellent doc covering the consummate musician’s career with him fully involved with the retrospect in true Canadian fashion right from the opening scene.
