This was on my For Later list for a couple of years, and finally I requested it. Wow! I was totally hooked, and sped through all six volumes (to date) in the series in a few weeks. Modern China is portrayed in fascinating detail. The plot is believable and the passionate, troubled relationship between detective Li Yan and pathologist Margaret Campbell kept me turning the pages. If I have one criticism it's that the writing is sometimes subpar-- occasionally the point of view changes mid-paragraph for example--but I could overlook it in my enjoyment of the story.
