After reading On Dublin Street and not really caring for the character of Johanna, I wasn't eager to jump into this next book in the series. Since it's been nearly three years since I read the first book, I thought enough time had passed. I'm not sure if I'm happy that I took such a long break between books or disappointed that I waited so long. I loved how Johanna was portrayed with her back story and present circumstances. The author did a great job of convincing me that she was not who she was wholly portrayed as in On Dublin Street. Besides a couple of vile characters in Johanna's life, the love interests were wonderfully portrayed, as well. Not exactly a love triangle, but Johanna was in a different relationship at the start of the book and I liked that the author didn't make him out to be a terrible person. Instead, as a reader, I felt compassion for him, while at the same time rooted for her new relationship. Boy, did I ever root for Cam MacCabe. Such a dreamy hero and the perfect match for Johanna. So, I read the ebook while I also interchangeably listened to the audiobook. I highly recommend the audio with the yummy Scottish accent. The audio was performed by a single female narrator, but she did an amazing job with both the female and male voices, as well as a convincing American accent for a couple of characters.
