This is a phenomenal book that covers everything a homesteader or self-sufficient person needs to know. It goes into detail but not too much detail that you feel overwhelmed. The pages are filled with photographs, charts, graphs, and illustrations that make the book enjoyable to read and help convey the material in a simplified manner (read the text paragraphs for details, or glance at the charts for a quick overview.. the best of both worlds!) Topics include gardening, cooking with homegrown and natural ingredients, canning/preserving the harvest, crafts, the barnyard, and the workshop. I've borrowed over a dozen homesteading/self-sufficiency/natural living books from the library system and this is one of my favorites (along with "Natural Living: The 21st Century Guide to A Self-Sufficient Lifestyle" by Liz Wright.)
