As a child, Mallory, also known as Mouse by her old friend, lived in an abusive household. Although she is now in a safer place, all her past experiences have traumatized her and she now has difficulty speaking. Years later, she reunites with Rider, her childhood protector, and reignites their long-lasting bond. As their friendship deepens to something more, Mallory finds out that Rider’s life hasn’t been as straightforward as hers had and is now forced to confront her missing voice and to use it for the ones she loves. I loved this realistic romance and adored the plot and characters. Mallory and Riser’s character development was very apparent throughout the novel and their past allows readers to feel empathy for them. Rating:5/5 @Iron_Rose of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board The Problem with Forever is a book that makes you obsessed for a few weeks, and then you kind of forget all about it. Needless to say, Armentrout writes beautifully about Mallory Dodge, a girl who has a troubled past in her foster home and her only hero is her foster brother Rider. But Mallory is in a much better place now with Carl and Rosa, and is ready to face the next obstacle in her life; public high school. Mallory was always told to be quiet and not say a word in her frightful past, thus now she struggles with speaking and anxiety. But everything takes an unexpected turn when she sees Rider in the hallway of her new school and everything, everything falls back onto her like a landslide. Everything she tried so hard to forget, comes back to her in flashbacks. But with Rider there to share her pain, she realizes that she can become much more than what she was before and can fight her past with the help of friends. Personally, I enjoyed this book in the beginning but the middle kind of fell short for me. Then it all wrapped up nicely at the end, so I would recommend this for a long road trip so you can appreciate how it is all put together. My favourite part of this novel were the characters; especially Ainsley, Hector and Jaden even though they were supporting characters. - @jewelreader of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
