"I've never been a raving fan of Bruce Springsteen's music, but I know enough about the man to respect his work, his integrity, his vision and his values. I figured the story-telling talent in his songs would translate to reading his own book, so I decided to listen to the audio version--an excellent decision. This book was mesmerizing to listen to. Springsteen's story is captivating and his voice takes us through his life with much emotional range. I loved hearing him excitedly recounting success and somberly and seriously capturing heartbreak and sorrow. Listening to it gave me moments of fists-in-the-air joy, more than a few belly-laughs and also jerked a few tears. He describes his background and childhood the way only an evolved person who has done extensive therapeutic work can. He is introspective and thoughtful. He cares a lot about people in his life: family, friends, band-mates, other musicians, and people from his home-town, his state, his country. I always thought he was a guy with his heart (and brain) in the right place, but he is off the charts in this way. If you are a fan (or just an interested observer like myself), I strongly recommend listening to your hero read his own heroic story. He is an American icon who gives much fascinating and fun anecdotal information on the music business, other musicians and being a huge rock and roll star. When I was a kid, the ends of good books and movies would leave me sad and wanting more--why does something this wonderful have to end? I felt that way again when this book ended; I miss Bruce! I don't know if there's a better way to recommend listening to this."
