I don't think anyone expected a new album from Tribe Called Quest in 2016. I don't think anyone expected it to be so good. It had been well over a decade since their last album, the somewhat underwhelming "Love Movement" in 1998. They did reunite, but there were tensions, as documented in the excellent "Beats, Rhymes & Life" film. The new album's triumph is clouded with grief as founding member Pfife Dawg died prior to its release. If you even have a mild interest in Tribe, this is worth checking it out. It's success is that it sounds like their classic work, but also sounds very much of the moment. Guests include Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000, Jack White, and Anderson.Paak. This will probably be their last album, and they are going out on top and reminded everyone how important they are to hip-hop.
