Members of two rival families are bound by a centuries-old magical pact that requires them to compete in a deadly duel once every generation. The Baldwin and Davenport families received magical abilities and the power to move outside of time after their ancestors made a bargain with a witch in exchange for freedom. In return, each generation must provide a champion to fight to the death to sustain the witch's immortality. In the current generation, Emma Baldwin, a wish spinner, and Malcolm Davenport, an illusionist, are chosen as the competitors. As they prepare for the inevitable duel, the two secretly meet and begin to question the legacy of rivalry and violence that binds their families. Together, they consider whether it may be possible to break the curse that has controlled their destinies for generations.
